Samsung launches streaming video service
Samsung has announced a new streaming video service for the Asian market. The service, which has been codenamed Project Glued for the time being, offers viewers the opportunity to rent a complete season of a TV series for 4.75 euros per month.
Samsung’s video-on-demand service should be available in Singapore and the Philippines in the third quarter, GigaOM reports. Project Glued must first be made available on Samsung smartphones and tablets, with the Android app available to download from both Google Play and Samsung Apps. There should also be an app for Samsung smart TVs and a browser version.
To lure viewers, Samsung wants to make the first episode of each season available for free. Paying viewers can also give up to six users free access to the entire season of a rented series for one day via a ‘gift option’.
It is unclear whether Samsung will also offer the service outside of Asia. The approach of the South Korean company has so far been fragmented. Samsung recently announced Milk Music for the US, but it has also decided to discontinue Hub Books and Music Hub.
