Samsung launches Android 8.0 update for Galaxy S8 and S8+ beta program participants
Samsung has released the Android 8.0 update for the Galaxy S8 and S8+. The people who are in the beta program will get the update first. It is not yet clear when it will appear for users who did not participate.
The version number of the update is FXXU1CRAP, Galaxyclub reports. The update for users of the beta is 487MB in size, but that will be larger for users who were not in the beta program, the site says. The update brings the S8 to Android 8.0.0 with Samsung Experience 9.0. Samsung Experience is the name that the manufacturer has used for some time for its Android edition, which was first called Touchwiz.
Now that the update is ready, it will probably appear soon for users who are still on Android Nougat. This makes the timing of the update in line with previous years, when the Galaxy S models received the update to a new Android version around February. The current update will eventually also be released for the Galaxy S7 models, Samsung has not yet announced anything about the S6.
The update adds standard Oreo features and Samsung has also made changes to its own software. For example, options have been added for the clock on the Always On screen, the keyboard has received some improvements, the interface of DeX looks slightly different and Samsung has added the Dual Messenger function, which allows users to clone apps to, for example, log with two accounts on Facebook, WhatsApp or Telegram.
