Samsung isn’t backporting Galaxy AI to S22 phones, but they can handle that

Samsung does not yet plan to provide the Galaxy S22 phones with Galaxy AI functions, although the SoCs of those phones can handle that.

The Galaxy AI features will be available for expensive Samsung phones from last year, including the S23 FE. That phone has the same Exynos 2200 SoC as the S22 phones, making it clear that the functions can run on the phones.

Samsung CEO Patrick Chomet tells Techradar that Samsung wants to wait and see how intensively users use the functions. “We don’t know what the intensity of AI use will be for the average customer and therefore how that intensity will impact on-device resources and cloud resources.”

That is why Samsung mainly wants to wait and see. “First, we want to ensure the quality and performance of what we deploy. Then we learn how people use these features and tailor performance accordingly. Second, we will deploy Galaxy AI on a second set of devices, specifically the S23, S23 FE, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5 and Tab S9, to see how it works.” Samsung announced the features of Galaxy AI with the Galaxy S24 presentation last week.
