Samsung is working on screens for self-driving cars
Samsung Display has announced its first in-car displays. The New Digital Cockpit consists of a curved 34″ screen and a 15.6″ screen. Samsung Display says the curved screen is partly intended for autonomous cars.
The 34″ screen has a curvature of 700R, which is equivalent to the curvature of a circle with a radius of 70cm, and is intended for the driver of the car. Such screens in cars do not yet have such curvatures, but Samsung Display poses that a curved screen is better for the driver, because he or she has an ‘optimum viewing experience’ and can better focus on the road.
According to the company, this 34″ screen can also be used when the vehicle is driving autonomously, for example to watch movies. In addition to the 34″ screen, Samsung Display has presented a 15.6″ screen for passengers in the car. The two screens are Samsung Displays first products specifically intended for the car market.Samsung says it will mainly focus with the products on the self-driving car market, because the company expects it to grow rapidly.
