Samsung is working on a smart speaker with infrared for operating devices

Samsung has shown more of its Galaxy Home Mini speaker, a small version of the Galaxy Home that the manufacturer announced last year. The smaller speaker has infrared transmitters and receivers for controlling equipment without WiFi, but with infrared.

It has four infrared transmitters to send signals over various distances, Yonhap reported on the basis of Samsung’s Bixby Developer Day in the South Korean capital Seoul. It also has infrared receivers to receive signals. The speaker must therefore also be able to control devices with voice commands that cannot be controlled via WiFi, such as older models of TVs or AV receivers.

Samsung showed the Home Mini on its own page in August, but has not yet shown any specifications and details. It is also still unknown when the device should be released. South Koreans were already able to test the speaker and the feedback was positive, according to Samsung.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Home is still not available. The device was announced in August last year, but Samsung delayed it. Both speakers must work via Bixby, Samsung’s voice assistant.
