Samsung is not yet releasing 850 Pro 4TB SSD due to nand shortages
Shortages of nand memory mean that Samsung chooses not to release the 4TB version of the Samsung 850 Pro yet. That version has been expected for a long time and in the run-up to CES at the beginning of this month, Samsung confirmed the arrival of the SSD.
When using its NAND memory, Samsung gives priority to products that are most in demand due to global shortages. The manufacturer confirms this to Tom’s Hardware. It is unknown when the SSD will appear. If more is known about the availability of the 850 Pro 4TB, Samsung will let you know.
That Samsung would come with a 4TB version of the 850 Pro, was apparent from a pre-announcement from CES in November last year. The Korean company then listed a series of products that had won innovation awards. Samsung then spoke of ‘the first 2bit MLC 4TB SSD for consumers’. The 4TB SSD was also mentioned on a site for firmware updates. Samsung already has a 4TB SSD in its range, but it is built around 3bit TLC NAND. The price of that model is well above a thousand euros.
At the beginning of December, research agency DramExchange noted that there was insufficient supply of nandflash. This would be due to the increased use of SSDs for laptops and problems with the switch to 3d-nand. The latter would not play a role at Samsung, DramExchange thought.
