Samsung is going to release more Tizen devices
Samsung is coming with a Gold variant of the Z1 smartphone, which the company has released in India and which runs its own Tizen OS. After that, more Tizen devices will follow. Samsung claims that the Z1 sells better in India than some comparable devices.
The Gold version of the Z1 will arrive next month and will have a similar price as that Tizen device, converted about 80 euros. Yet another smartphone with Tizen comes in a slightly higher price segment: 8000 to 15,000 Indian rupees, converted 112 to 212 euros.
The arrival of new Tizen devices has been reported to the India Times by a marketing executive of Samsung India. He did not give specifications of the devices. According to him, sales of the Z1 are going better than expected, although he also admitted that the numbers are still small.
Samsung is said to have sold 1 million Z1 devices in six months. “That’s comparable or better than some devices in the same segment of our portfolio,” he said. Samsung has five smartphones with a price of less than 80 euros in its range in India. In total, 2.8 million cheap Android smartphones are sold in the country every month. According to telecom research firm Convergence Catalyst, the Z1 has a 7 percent market share in the budget price segment.
Samsung also uses Tizen for smartwatches and TVs. Tizen is a Linux-based open source operating system that builds on the LiMo platform.
