Samsung introduces earbuds with built-in music player and fitness tracking
Samsung has presented wireless earbuds that work as a fitness tracker and standalone music player. This allows athletes to use the caps without a phone nearby. Samsung also comes with a successor to the Gear Fit bracelet.
Samsung has revealed few specifications of the Gear IconX, such as which sensors it contains. The IconX connects to a phone via bluetooth and has its own storage for a thousand songs. The storage will probably be around 4GB. The tips also provide a Voice Guide during a workout for voice prompts.
The audio set also has a heart rate monitor on board. The IconX can also measure distance and speed traveled, making it likely that there is a pedometer on board. The earbuds synchronize with Samsung’s own application S Health, which now also runs on non-Samsung smartphones. The caps have a battery life of six hours, with an extra battery in the hard case case that allows the IconX to last up to twelve hours. The IconX will be released this summer in the Benelux for a suggested retail price of 229 euros.
The Gear Fit 2 follows the Gear Fit that appeared two years ago. The OLED screen is smaller with 1.5 “, but the resolution is higher with 468×218 pixels. In addition, the bracelet now runs on Samsung’s own operating system Tizen.
The fitness tracker has 512MB of memory and a storage size of 4GB, mainly for music storage. The second Fit is compatible with all Android smartphones running 4.4 or higher and connects via bluetooth. In addition to all the motion sensors that the Gear Fit already had, Samsung has added a barometer and GPS to the Fit 2. The battery is slightly smaller in capacity at 200mAh. The Gear Fit 2 will be released in the Benelux next week and will cost 199 euros.
The presentation of both products was no surprise. Samsung had already put the manual of the Fit 2 online this week, while all images and specifications were also online. ‘Smartphone nice’ EvLeaks also released information and images about the IconX in April.
