Samsung hints at quarterly figures on Galaxy S7 release before the end of March
Samsung hints in the presentation of its quarterly figures that the Galaxy S7 will be available before the end of March. According to Samsung, the ‘impact of new devices’ will ensure that the turnover in the mobile division increases.
Those new devices are in any case expensive models, because although Samsung expects sales to increase, the manufacturer expects to deliver fewer smartphones in the coming months. This is only possible if the average price of a delivered Samsung smartphone rises sharply, which is only possible with expensive models. There have been rumors for some time that the Galaxy S7 would appear in mid-March, after a presentation in February.
Samsung delivered more cheaper smartphones in the last months of the year and total smartphone sales declined compared to the previous quarter, the manufacturer says. Although Samsung has not published figures for its deliveries for years, analyst firm Strategy Analytics estimates that the South Korean manufacturer comes in at 81.3 million. This would make Samsung the market leader, followed by Apple with 74.8 million devices delivered. The manufacturer expects a slight increase in sales for the whole of 2016.
The South Korean manufacturer also mentions that at the end of last year, 22 percent of the TVs supplied are UHDTVs. Turnover from the deliveries of TVs rose, but Samsung expects another decline in the coming period. Sales will pick up again in the summer because of the Olympic Games, the manufacturer thinks.
The semiconductor branch of Samsung went through a difficult period. For the coming year, Samsung says it wants to find more customers for its processors. The lion’s share of the Exynos-socs still end up in Samsung smartphones.
Samsung Electronics recorded a turnover of 53.32 trillion South Korean won in the last quarter of 2015, or about 40 billion euros. Operating profit came in at 6.14 trillion won.
