Samsung has equipped four 4k Qled TV models for 2020 with a single HDMI 2.1 connection. These televisions have recently become available. The three 8k televisions that the manufacturer is releasing this year were already known to have an HDMI 2.1 connection.

Samsung has confirmed to the FlatpaneldHD website that four 4K TVs this year have an HDMI 2.1 connection: the Q95T, Q90T, Q80T and Q70T series. For the latter two models, it only concerns TVs from 55 “; the Q80T with 49 “, for example, does not have HDMI 2.1. This means that the 49” version cannot process 4k images at 120fps via an external source and does not have VRR, although the TV does have support for allm and earc.

It was already known that this year’s 8k models, the Q950TS, Q900TS and Q800T, have a single HDMI 2.1 connection, so that these televisions not only support 4k and 120fps, but also 8k and 60fps.

So far, LG is the only manufacturer that has equipped its high-end TVs with only HDMI 2.1 connections for some time. This has been the case for OLED TVs and the most expensive LCD TVs since last year. Sony is also equipping its XH90 LCD TV of this year with an HDMI 2.1 connection and the manufacturer already released the Sony ZG9 8k TV last year with support for HDMI 2.1. Philips and Panasonic do not yet have HDMI 2.1 in their range this year.

The presence of HDMI 2.1 and the ability of televisions to handle a 4k resolution and 120fps from an externally connected source, among other things, will become important features for users of the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X, which will be released later this year. The new consoles from Sony and Microsoft support 4k and 120fps.
