Samsung has given more details of the soc in the Gear S3 smartwatch. The Exynos 7270 appears to contain two Cortex A53 cores and has a Mali T720 GPU on board for the graphics performance. Samsung has built in 4g connectivity.

Samsung has mass-produced the Exynos 7270 with dimensions of 10x10mm. The manufacturer produces the processor cores at 14nm, as Samsung said when the Gear S3 was announced. The 4g connectivity runs through a modem with support for up to lte cat 4 with 150Mbit/s down.

The Mali T720 GPU can control screens with a resolution of up to 960×540 pixels, Samsung claims on the product page. The memory is of the lpddr3 type, while the soc can have storage of the eMMC 5.0 type on board. The SOC has onboard support for WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2 and an FM radio. This means that wearables with this soc could have their own FM receiver on board. Wearables can also offer location services via GPS, glonass and beidou.

The Exynos 7270 will be the first to appear in Samsung’s own Gear S3 watch this fall and is available for other manufacturers. It is unknown whether competitors of the South Korean electronics maker will use the soc in their wearables.
