Samsung gives Galaxy Buds Pro earphones noise canceling and a price of 229 euros
Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Buds Pro. With a price of 229 euros, these are the most expensive wireless earphones that the manufacturer has released to date. The Buds Pro have noise canceling and, according to Samsung, offer good sound quality.
In terms of design and shape, the Galaxy Buds Pro seem to be something of a cross between the Galaxy Buds Plus and the Galaxy Buds Live, even if it is a completely new design. The earphones have an 11mm woofer and a 6.5mm tweeter. This should lead to the best sound quality of any Galaxy Buds earbuds.
Active noise canceling is present. As usual, there is also an Ambient Sound option to amplify ambient sounds. In addition, the product recognizes the user’s voice, on the basis of which it automatically chooses to amplify or filter out sounds in the environment. Also, the volume of music being played is reduced if the Ambient Sound option is turned on or Active Noise Canceling is turned off.
Three microphones are available for conducting conversations. The user’s voice should sound good, partly because one of the three microphones, according to Samsung, would have a higher signal-to-noise ratio. The Galaxy Buds Pro earphones should also be able to respond well to filtering out the sound of the wind, so that telephone conversations can still be understood in strong wind.
There’s also a 360-degree audio feature that probably resembles the virtual spatial surround technology of the Apple AirPods Pro. Samsung talks about Dolby Head Tracking technology, which means that you as a user remain in the middle of, for example, a television series or film as far as the sound is concerned. The Galaxy Buds Pro also automatically switch devices, if it concerns Samsung smartphones or tablets.
Thanks to the 61mAh battery, the Galaxy Buds Pro earphones can be used for 8 hours without noise cancellation, or 5 hours with noise cancellation. In combination with the 472mAh battery in the charging case, the total operating time including noise reduction is 18 hours. Without noise reduction, that’s 28 hours. For charging there is Qi support and after charging for 5 minutes a playback time of one hour should be available, assuming the battery level is not below 30 percent.
The Galaxy Buds Pro are IPX7 certified, so they can be submerged a meter deep in fresh water for up to half an hour. The charging case is not water resistant. An individual cap weighs 6.3g and measures 19.5×20.5×20.8mm; the charging case weighs 44.9g and measures 50×50.2×27.8mm. Bluetooth 5.0 is supported, as is Samsung’s own Scalable codec, supplemented by AAC and SBC. The Galaxy Buds Pro are available from January 29 for 229 euros and come in variants with the colors black, silver and violet.
