‘Samsung Galaxy S5 with higher screen resolution will be released in a month’
According to two South Korean media, Samsung will present a variant of the Galaxy S5 with a 2560×1440 screen in a month’s time. The device seems to be intended for Samsung’s home market for the time being. There have been rumors about this ‘S5 Prime’ for months.
The new version of the Samsung smartphone is necessary, because the current Galaxy S5 supports speeds over 4G up to 150Mbit/s, while the South Korean providers will offer 4G with 225Mbit/s from next month. A modem that supports the higher speed is in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 soc.
In addition to the new MDM9635 modem, the Snapdragon 805 has four Krait processor cores of a new type and a faster GPU than the current Snapdragon 801; the Adreno 420 would be up to 40 percent faster than the Adreno 330 in the soc of the Galaxy S5, among others.
The Samsung phone that should entice customers to take the faster 4G, according to Yonhap news agency, is a variant of the Galaxy S5 with a screen resolution of 2560×1440 pixels and will be released around July 19. Korea Times also mentions a higher resolution than the current S5.
There have been rumors for months about a variant of the S5 with a higher screen resolution. This S5 Prime will probably only be released in South Korea. Samsung did something similar last year, when the Galaxy S4 LTE-A with Snapdragon 800 came out in Samsung’s home country in the summer. That device could be found months later in European countries.
