Samsung Expert RAW app brings Pro Mode to all cameras of Galaxy S21 Ultra
Samsung has released a beta of an Expert RAW app for owners of the Galaxy S21 Ultra. This allows users with all four cameras of the device to take raw photos that consist of multiple shots. The Pro Mode functions are also available.
Currently, the Pro Mode, in which raw photos can be taken and settings can be changed manually, is only available for the primary camera and the ultra-wide angle camera of the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Samsung says that it will soon also want to bring the Pro Mode to the telephoto cameras. In the Expert RAW app, which has been released as beta in South Korea, it is already possible to take raw photos with the telephoto cameras.
Expert RAW is only available through the Galaxy Store for the Galaxy S21 Ultra with Android 12. The app is also only released in South Korea, but Twitter user Tron has the apk and the associated Lightroom profile put online.
According to GSM Arena, which has tested the feature, the Expert RAW app takes photos combining multiple shots into a 16-bit DNG file. As a result, the same HDR effects as with jpgs are possible, with the advantage of a raw file with a higher color depth, which makes more post-processing possible. That is comparable to Apple’s ProRAW format.
