Samsung is working with Harman, acquired in 2017, on an open, modular software and hardware platform called drvline for self-driving cars. This allows car manufacturers to create self-driving cars based on new technology and customizable components.

Part of the platform is a new digital cockpit that should ensure that any drivers can fully concentrate on the road, with certain services and apps being projected via the smartphone. This system, which works partly through a connection to servers, would eliminate the need for certain hardware in the car, reducing the cost and weight of the car.

The platform is intended for self-driving cars with a level of automation from level 3 to level 5. Part of this platform is also an adas camera, which shows everything at the front of the car. This is combined with an alarm system if the car deviates from its track. It is also connected to adaptive cruise control, a system that gives a warning in the event of an impending collision and an algorithm that should warn of pedestrians who are close to the car. This camera system will be available in early 2018.

Samsung also says that with the platform, it is the first manufacturer to have developed a system that is ready for 5G applications. A data connection with a bandwidth of 1Gb/s would be possible.
