Samsung has definitively stopped the production and sale of the Galaxy Note 7. The electronics giant has announced this. It was previously clear that the South Korean company had stopped selling the smartphone worldwide.

Samsung has now definitively given up on the Galaxy Note 7, according to the report to Kats, the South Korean government body for technology and standards. The manufacturer previously advised users of the device to switch it off and not to use it anymore.

The final discontinuation of the Note 7 is a response to a new series of incidents surrounding the smartphone. Earlier on Tuesday it became clear that Samsung stopped selling the Android smartphone. There were a total of at least seven incidents in which the battery caught fire.

The cause of flaming batteries is still unknown. The manufacturer recalled the Note 7 in early September and offered to exchange previously sold copies of the phone. The exchanged copies also turned out to be sensitive to the problems. The Note 7 should have been released in the Benelux this week.
