Samsung comes with a battery that allows the car to drive 500 km after 20 minutes of charging – update

Samsung has developed a battery for cars that can be charged to 80 percent of its capacity in 20 minutes. Drivers can travel 600 kilometers with a full battery, according to Samsung. It will take several years before the battery goes into mass production.

Mass production is on the agenda for 2021. Samsung SDI, the battery division of the group, does not provide details about the battery technology. The company writes that ‘knowledge of materials and processes’ has led to a decrease in resistance in battery cells.

Samsung also presented a 24 cell battery module with a capacity of 6 to 8 kWh at the International Auto Show in Detroit, where conventional modules would have 12 cells and a capacity of 2 to 3 kWh. The integrated battery module would be safer and lighter because it consists of fewer components.

Update, 12.20: As user data bug indicates, relevant data is missing from Samsung’s claims. After all, the distance that can be covered depends on the amount of kWh of the battery and the consumption of the car in the example. The basis of the message would be that the battery can be charged with twice the capacity in power.
