Samsung claims that Huawei’s smartphones infringe its patents
Samsung has sued Huawei in China for patent infringement. Huawei should have licensed technology it uses with multiple smartphones, including the Mate 8 and Honor models, from Samsung, the claim reads.
It concerns six patents, but which technology they describe, the Wall Street Journal does not report. It is clear that Samsung is demanding compensation of 161 million Chinese yuan, converted 21.88 million euros. In addition, Huawei should stop manufacturing and selling the devices in China, the lawsuit filed in Beijing’s Intellectual Property Court.
The indictment is a counter-reaction to Huawei’s patent claims. Two months ago, Huawei sued Samsung in China and the US for patent infringement on phone software and mobile networks. Among other things, Huawei owns many patents in the field of 4G technologies.
Companies regularly file counterclaims in patent disputes to gain a better negotiating position in possible settlements. Samsung and Huawei are the two main manufacturers of Android smartphones.
