Samsung can also make smartphone screens that fold in half several times
Samsung is able to make smartphones that fold in half several times, but the manufacturer is still looking for exactly what users can do with that. Samsung also lacks an ecosystem around foldable smartphones.
A Samsung CEO said, according to Korea Herald that it still lacks ‘content and services’ for foldable smartphones. It is unknown what exactly he means by that. “We can release new foldable smartphones at an opportune time when there are enough services available for those phones and so those phones have more value for consumers.” This probably includes software that makes use of the foldable screen option, such as Samsung’s own Flex mode.
In addition, it is technically already possible to design a phone that folds several times, for example to accommodate a larger screen in a smaller surface. Currently, Samsung has announced two models. The Galaxy Fold came out last year and the Galaxy Z Flip will go on sale next week.
Samsung will continue to develop both ideas, the CEO said. The Galaxy Z should be a series that focuses on portability, while the Fold series focuses on integrating larger screens into a smaller form.
