Samsung announces generative AI Gauss for text, images and code

Samsung has announced Gauss, a generative AI developed by Samsung Research. The AI ​​consists of three separate parts: Language, Code and Image. Gauss is designed to run locally and will eventually come to Galaxy devices.

Gauss Language is a language model that should help consumers create emails, summarize documents and translate content. It could also help improve device control, writes Samsung. Gauss Image is intended to be able to create and adjust images, where users can, for example, determine the style themselves. Gauss Image should also be able to upscale images.

With Gauss Code, developers should be able to write code faster and easier. This AI can also indicate what code can do and generate test cases. Samsung says Gauss is focused on increasing employee productivity for now, “but will be expanded to various Samsung products in the near future.”

According to Nikkei Asia Samsung plans to release Gauss on smartphones and other devices next year. The company can handle English and Korean texts. There is no mention of support for other languages. Samsung says it has an AI Red Team that must proactively resolve Gauss security and privacy issues in the necessary data collection, release of Gauss models and Gauss results.
