Samsung has announced the Exynos 2200-soc, presumably for use in its own Galaxy S22 smartphones. Samsung calls the AMD-developed GPU with ray tracing and variable rate shading Xclipse. Exact specs are missing.

On the product page, Samsung does not mention clock speeds of, for example, the cpu and gpu and it remains concise about the functions of the soc. It concerns Samsung’s first own soc made on its own 4nm process, the company says in the announcement.

The Xclipse GPU, a contraction of the X of Exynos and the word ‘eclipse’, is based on AMD’s RDNA2 architecture. This makes ray tracing and variable rate shading possible in mobile games, among other things. Samsung says nothing about how much the performance is different compared to competitors or previous socs.

Like the competing Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and MediaTek Dimensity 9000, the Exynos 2200 uses ARM Cortex X2, Cortex A710 and Cortex A510 cores. They are all based on the ARM Cortex v9 architecture. There is support for memory up to Lpddr5 and not the newer Lpddr5x, while storage goes up to UFS 3.1.

The isp supports up to seven camera sensors on a device, while a single sensor can have up to 200 megapixels. You can record videos up to 8k at 30fps. Samsung mentions that the Exynos 2200 is already in mass production. The manufacturer had already wanted to announce the soc a week ago, but that event did not happen.
