Samsung and Google merge smartwatch operating systems

Samsung and Google merge Tizen for smartwatches and Wear OS into one operating system. The new OS should make watches faster, while, according to the search giant, they can also last longer.

The new operating system will be available to all wearable makers, both companies say. With the new ecosystem, both companies want to create a larger ecosystem for wearables. The next Samsung smartwatch will run the new operating system. Fitbit, now part of Google, will also use the operating system. The name seems to become Wear, rather than Tizen or Wear OS.

The interface makes it possible, among other things, to quickly switch between apps with a double press of the button, for example to quickly control the music while running a fitness app. More details will be announced later. The release should take place this fall.
