Samsung and BlackBerry to partner in business market
Samsung has entered into a partnership agreement with BlackBerry. Samsung’s Knox security platform will be made compatible with the BlackBerry Enterprise Service 12 management platform, both products aimed at the enterprise market.
BlackBerry Enterprise Service 12 has been made compatible with the Android platform. As a result, system administrators of especially large companies and governments can now also manage and secure Android devices via BES12. Samsung’s Knox platform, which is often pre-installed on Samsung’s popular Android mobiles and tablets and offers more security options, will now be added from early next year.
Partly through a collaboration with Samsung, BlackBerry, which has been in financial difficulties for a long time, hopes to generate more income from its software in order to become less dependent on its hardware sales. Next year, BlackBerry says it wants to make a profit again. With the agreement, Samsung can tout its Knox platform in the enterprise market, where BlackBerry Enterprise Service is a popular choice, as a widely supported security implementation. So far, Samsung has struggled to win enterprise customers for its mobile devices and is seeing its share of the consumer market dwindle.
