Volition postpones Saints Row reboot by six months. The developer says he has underestimated the impact of the corona pandemic and needs more time to finish the game. There will be no major changes compared to what has been shown.

The new Saints Row game is set to be the “biggest and best” yet and will not be able to complete the game before its original release date of February 25 at the level the studio has set itself and what players can expect, writes chief creative officer Jim Boone.

Volition now gets an extra six months of development time and will use that to fine-tune and polish the game. Players should not expect content changes compared to what has been shown of the game so far, the studio emphasizes.

“Nothing changes to the story, the characters and everything we’ve lovingly created over the years,” Boone wrote in the blog post. He also says the studio underestimated how much of an impact the corona pandemic is having on planning, despite “everyone adapting very quickly to working from home” and remaining “very productive”.

Deep Silver Volition announced the reboot of Saints Row in August. The game takes place in the fictional city of Santo Ileso, located in the desert-like southwestern United States. Players take on the role of The Boss and are thus in charge of a criminal empire, which according to the developer can be arranged according to their own wishes.

The open world game features three enemy factions. These are the Marshall, a powerful multinational with futuristic weapons, the Panteros, consisting of heavily armed street criminals and the Idols, anarchists who use chaotic attack techniques.
