It seems that Safari users can watch Netflix in 4k with HDR when they run Apple’s new operating system macOS 11 Big Sur. So far, Safari shows the video service in up to 1080p resolution with HDR.

Ishan Agarwal noted that he could receive 4k streams with Dolby Vision at Netflix on his MacBook Pro with Safari on macOS Big Sur, writes 9to5Mac. Previously, the maximum resolution was 1080p with Dolby Vision.

Officially, neither Netflix nor Apple has announced anything about increasing the maximum resolution of the service on Safari. Until now, Netflix only supported 4k playback on computers via Microsoft’s Edge and the Windows 10 app. Boot Camp made it possible to watch Netflix on Mac computers in 4k.

Users must have a Mac with 4k display and HDR support for the feature. In addition, they need a Netflix Premium subscription of fourteen euros per month.
