AMD’s Ryzen 4000 processors for laptops are the company’s most successful laptop CPUs to date. In the past quarter, AMD delivered more laptop CPUs than it ever did in a second quarter. Sales increased by 26 percent compared to last year.

The company does not disclose exactly how many laptop processors AMD supplied, but AMD CEO Lisa Su emphasizes in a teleconference about the quarterly figures that the 7nm laptop processors are doing well. The CEO expects even more growth from the sale of laptop processors in the second half of this year.

According to AMD, there are now 54 laptops with Ryzen 4000 processors on the market and a ‘second wave’ is on the way, consisting of more than 30 new models. This concerns thin premium laptops and gaming laptops. More business laptops with Ryzen Pro 4000 processors will also be released in the second half of 2020.

Partly due to the success of the Ryzen 4000 laptop CPUs, quarterly sales of the Computing and Graphics business rose to $ 1.37 billion. That is 45 percent more than in the same quarter last year. Desktop CPUs for consumers also fall into this segment. Quarterly revenue from consumer CPUs was the highest in twelve years, according to AMD.

Su further emphasized that the production of RDNA 2 graphics cards, Zen 3 CPUs and the socs for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is on track. These new products should appear at the end of this year. In the past quarter, AMD started initial production and delivery of the chips for the next-gen consoles.

AMD’s total quarterly revenue was $ 1.93 billion, an increase of 26 percent from last year. Net income was $ 157 million. In the same quarter a year earlier, it was $ 35 million.
