The Russian company T-Platforms is launching an all-in-one computer with a mips-based and Russian-designed Baikal-T1 soc. The Tavolga Terminal TB-T22BT comes with the latest version of Debian 8.

The Tavolga Terminal is available to order and T-Platforms expects to start delivery in the second quarter. With the computer, the company is targeting Russian government organizations and companies that do not want to rely on American and Asian hardware for security reasons. The suggested retail price is 69,000 rubles, converted to 860 euros.

The all-in-one, named Meadowsweet Terminal, features a 21.5″ screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The processor is a Baikal-T1 soc with two 32bit mips cores based on the 2013 announced P5600 series. There is 1MB L2 cache and the clock speed is 1.2GHz.Baikal Electronics introduced the soc a year ago.

With the all-in-one, the processor can be combined with 2 to 8GB DDR3 and up to 8GB onboard flash storage, possibly supplemented with 2.5″ SSDs. The system also has four USB 2.0 ports, a memory card reader, gigabit ethernet and smart card support.

The operating system is Debian 8 and the manufacturer emphasizes that the PC can run, for example, LibreOffice and Firefox, and can also be used as a thin client with remote desktop apps such as VNC. T-Platform also plans to release the system in a compact housing without an integrated touchscreen.

Some countries are making frantic efforts to break free from the influence of other powers in technology. For example, Russia is experimenting with ALT Linux and ReactOS as Windows alternatives, China has its NeoKylin operating system and North Korea is working on the Fedora-based Red Star.
