Russia and China have signed a treaty in which the two countries promise not to hack each other. In addition, the secret services of the two countries will cooperate more, which should lead, among other things, to the exchange of information.

The deal between Russia and China was signed on Friday, The Wall Street Journal reported. As a result, both countries pledge not to harass each other with digital attacks and that they will act together against ‘technology that can destabilize the internal political and socio-economic situation’.

Also part of the deal is that government agencies, such as the police and secret services, of both countries will cooperate. This should lead, among other things, to the exchange of information. Incidentally, the United States and the European Union are working on a similar treaty. Furthermore, by exchanging technology, Russia and China hope that their computer systems will remain safe from hacking attacks.

The cooperation is probably a reaction to recent geopolitical developments. The United States has regular conflicts with Russia and China when it comes to cyber attacks. Previously, government officials called cybersecurity the greatest threat to US national security. At the same time, China is accusing the US of creating a digital arms race. The war in Ukraine has also cooled relations between Russia and the West.
