Jagex, the studio behind the popular massive multiplayer online game RuneScape, is in talks with Chinese mining company Shandong Hongda about a possible takeover. The iron ore miner has $300 million left for the studio, about 270 million euros.

According to the Financial Times, Shandong Hongda is a loss-making company looking to diversify its revenue streams through the acquisition of the studio. In January, the company already announced that it expects to make a total loss of 55 million dollars for 2015.

Jagex has told MCV that they are in talks with the mining company, but that they are not committed to anything yet. Negotiations regarding the acquisition are still ongoing and nothing will change for the studio for the time being. For example, nothing should change for future games like RuneScape: Idle Adventures.

The studio has announced on the forum that it is quite possible that the negotiations will come to nothing. Jagex sees the possible acquisition as an opportunity to make its games big on the Asian market.
