Jagex will make RuneScape available for Android and iOS this summer. The publisher does not mention an exact date, although the Apple App Store has an ‘expected’ date of June 17. Old School RuneScape was already available for smartphones.

The smartphone version of RuneScape is completely cross platform and players can log into the smartphone version with their desktop account. The Android and iOS version also has the same quests, characters, and locations as the desktop version. The smartphone game is already available as Early Access and has been installed more than 2.1 million times in the past eighteen months.

Jagex says the mobile version will be free and the game will have a mobile-friendly interface. The developer also writes about a ‘visual and operational overhaul’. The tutorial, menus, icons, text and textures have been redesigned for the smartphone game. The combat mechanisms have also been modified. Players can now sign up for the smartphone version, which will unlock “exclusive in-game rewards” for the community.

The developer said it was already working on a mobile version of RuneScape in 2017, then with a target release date of 2018. It’s not clear why that deadline was not met. Old School RuneScape has been available for iOS and Android for some time, this version appeared on October 30, 2018.
