Yahoo is reportedly working on a competitor for the popular video site YouTube. For the video network to be successful, popular video creators on YouTube would have to be persuaded to produce for Yahoo.

That is what Recode says based on various unspecified sources. By enticing popular creators to switch to Yahoo’s video site, the company would directly compete with Google’s YouTube. Yahoo would like to persuade creators by paying more than the competition. According to Recode, several well-known YouTube creators have already been approached.

For example, creators could get a larger share of the revenue from ad revenue. In addition, Yahoo has also promised that creators will have more opportunities to campaign for their videos. They would be given space for this on other Yahoo sites, among other things.

If the rumors are true, then Yahoo’s video site should be released sometime in the coming months. In addition to the aforementioned rumors that the company wants to compete with YouTube, it is not yet clear exactly what the video service would look like.

Yahoo previously tried to acquire a video service through an acquisition. However, the planned takeover of Dailymotion was prevented by the French government. The internet company would then have started setting up a video service.
