Rumor: Windows 11 22H2 will get rtm status this month
Microsoft is planning to release Windows 11 22H2 into release-to-manufacturing status as early as May, according to several sources. The final public release of the only major Windows 11 update with new features is expected to take place in September.
Microsoft wants reach rtm status with Windows 11 22H2 at the end of Maycodenamed Sun Valley 2. That posts Deskmodder and XenoPanther independent of each other. Deskmodder is a German site that is more likely to publish early Windows information, and XenoPanther is a Microsoft-focused Twitter user. Not everyone agrees with the claim. Wzor, which also often publishes early-stage Windows information, keeps it on the period 20 to 24 June on which Windows 11 22H2 should be ready.
Rtm means that the software has reached the final state in which it should appear for users. According to previous rumors from Deskmodder, Microsoft wants to make the release version of Windows 11 22H2 available for the first time in August, while the public release mid September starts.
Windows 11 22H2 is the first and only feature update of Windows 11 this year. The update should, among other things, complement the OS with functions that Microsoft did not get for the release last year. With 22H2, Windows 11 will get, among other things, a more extensive dark mode, more extensive functions of the taskbar and widget panel, support for third-party widgets, app folders in the start menu, tabs in the Explorer and Focus Assist integration in the notification bar.
