According to website Let’s Play Video Games, Ubisoft is working on a turn-based RPG set in the Mario universe, which is overrun by the rabbits from Ubisoft’s own Raving Rabbids games. The game is to be a launch game for the Nintendo Switch.

The website says the information about the game comes from sources at Ubisoft and Nintendo and is able to provide extensive details about the game. Known under the working title Mario RPG: Invasion of the Rabbids, the game is a crossover between the Mario games and Ubisoft’s own Raving Rabbids games.

Rumor has it that the game is being developed under strict supervision from Nintendo. This should ensure that the game is finished in time to come to the market together with the console and that the representation of the Mario world in the game corresponds to Nintendo’s wishes.

The game would take place in a Mario universe, where an invasion of the Rabbids takes place. The game would also include a new Bowser character, designed with the design of the Rabbids as a starting point. Rumor has it that several characters from Mario games appear in the game and there is a particular emphasis on the presence of Yoshi.

The game will be playable for the press for the first time in January, says the website that comes with the rumor. The game is therefore used to show the public how the Nintendo Switch can be used through trailers.

The rumor is striking because Nintendo does not just lend its characters to other game makers. Lets Play Videogames states that the console builder will present the project as a game from the Mario RPG series, in collaboration with Ubisoft, while the game studio and publisher do by far most of the development work.

Ubisoft released the game Rabbids Land for the Nintendo Wii U in 2012. The game was not well received with an average score of 52 on Metacritic. The publisher has made several Rabbids games, mostly party games. The games are a spin-off of the Rayman platform games. The crazy rabbits first appeared in those games.

Eurogamer also publishes a rumor about a new game for the Switch on Friday: according to the website, a new version of Pokémon Sun and Moon is coming for the Nintendo console. The games released next week for the 3DS would be adapted and the Switch version may be called Pokémon Stars. It is unknown whether the game will be released simultaneously with the release of the console.
