Twitter would have plans to offer advertisements on other sites and apps in addition to its own website. Those should then appear in Twitter streams that sites use to show tweets. The social networking site is trying new things to make more money.

The rumors come from The Wall Street Journal. According to sources, Twitter’s plans were revealed to a select group of advertisers during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The social network site already advertises itself by, for example, placing sponsored tweets between the Twitter messages. It now also wants to do this on websites of others, by placing advertisements in external Twitter streams. Apps of interested companies could also be provided with advertisements.

Twitter would like to share proceeds from advertising deals with other companies. However, it is not yet known exactly what the advertising service will look like: the company behind the social networking site did not want to respond to the reports.

Twitter has been trying things out for a while to increase its sales. According to The Wall Street Journal, video ads are also being considered, with the first six seconds playing automatically. The release of this may coincide with the upcoming video platform, which has been rumored for some time. For some time it has been possible for companies to have tweets appear in the timeline of users for a fee.
