Rumor: Twitter is going to lay off some of its staff
Twitter is said to have plans to reduce its workforce. It is not clear how many people will be laid off, but people in every department should leave. The social networking site has been struggling with disappointing growth for some time.
The usually well-informed Re/code reports that there are plans within Twitter to fire people, but the company itself does not want to respond to the reports. However, the reorganization should be made public next week. According to the sources of Re/code, all departments within Twitter will be faced with layoffs, although it is still unclear exactly how many people will have to leave.
Engineers in particular are expected to be fired, according to the sources of Re/code. That should make the organization more efficient, which would again fit the philosophy of the new CEO, Jack Dorsey, who is also co-founder of the social networking site. Dorsey previously indicated that Twitter should have more ‘focus’.
Recently, former CEO Dick Costolo resigned from his position as CEO to be succeeded by Dorsey. Costolo was accused of having failed to grow the number of users significantly. Despite the lackluster growth, the number of employees employed by Twitter has doubled since the company’s IPO.
