Rumor: successor Google Glass no longer has a display
The successor to Google Glass may not have a display and would be aimed at athletes. Google would also be working on a version for companies that still has a display. There would also be a third successor to Glass.
The sports version works just like the original bone conduction Glass for audio playback, reports tech site The Information. The audio waves are passed on as vibrations to the skull, which then passes them on to the cochlea and the auditory nerve. This means that all the sound produced by the device can only be heard by the wearer and people who are close by cannot listen in. Presumably, the successor to Glass will let users hear notifications.
A second and third successor to Glass that Google is working on do have a display on board, but are mainly aimed at business use. The Information reports that the latter two variants may be merged into a product before it comes out. What business use this version of Glass would be for is unknown.
Google launched Glass as an experimental project a few years ago. Because the reactions mainly from the environment of users were mostly negative, something that was due to many people suspecting that Glass users were continuously filming their environment, Google discontinued the first Glass. So far, the company has not disclosed anything about the features and design of a successor.
