Rumor: sports version Apple Watch has larger screen and larger battery
Apple is working on an “extreme sport” version of its smartwatch, according to financial news agency Bloomberg. That variant has a larger screen and a larger battery compared to the regular version. In addition, it is made of other materials.

The screen comes out at almost 2″ at a resolution of 410×502 pixels, writes Bloomberg. That is slightly higher than the 394×484 pixels of the Watch Series 7 and is also expected to be the large version of the regular Watch Series 8. If the sharpness of the screen remains the same at 329 pixels per inch, it is a screen of about 1 .97″ with a surface area of 12.2 square centimeters, 7 percent more than the Watch Series 7’s 11.4 square centimeters.
Apple would use that extra space to show additional fitness data, the financial news agency reports. In addition, the clock would be made of other materials. The screen would have reinforced glass to prevent the display from breaking. Instead of aluminum, it would be made of a stronger metal. The larger battery should allow for longer workouts. It is not clear how much capacity that battery has.
The manufacturer usually presents its new clocks in September. There have been rumors for some time about a ‘rugged’ version of the Apple Watch, aimed at extreme sports. Until now, the manufacturer produces two editions per year: a smaller and a larger version.
