Rumor: Sony transfers Twisted Metal reboot development to new studio
According to VGC sources, the development of an alleged Twisted Metal reboot has been outsourced to a Sony first-party studio in Europe. It was previously expected that the British Lucid Games, the maker of Destruction All-Stars for the PS5, was working on such a title.
Sources tell VGC that Sony has changed its plans for the alleged Twisted Metal reboot and is transferring its development from Lucid Games to another studio. Specifically, that would be about one of Sony’s first-party studios elsewhere in Europe, but it is not known which developer exactly. The reason for the switch is also unknown, although one of the sources suggested that the poor reception of Destruction All-Stars played a part.
The first reports of a possible Twisted Metal reboot appeared in September, also writes Eurogamer. Insider Jeff Grubb then reported that such a game is in early development on his Giant Bomb video podcast. VGC . then reported that Lucid Games was working on that game, but this would have changed by now.
Sony itself has not yet confirmed the Twisted Metal reboot, although the company again emphasized at CES last week that it is working on a TV series based on that franchise. That series was already announced in 2019. Variety reported last year that Sony teamed up with the writers of Deadpool for the TV series. The series was set to release in 2023, and the reboot game may be released at the same time.
