Sony wants to present the upcoming, more powerful variant of the PS4 before its VR glasses PlayStation VR comes out, the American business newspaper The Wall Street Journal reports. The VR glasses should be in stores in October this year.

It is ‘probable’ that the upcoming PS4 variant and the current PlayStation 4 can play the same games, the business newspaper claims based on some unnamed sources. The ‘PS4.5’ would have more processing power on board for playing in virtual reality and could also show images in UHD. In view of the available hardware on the market, it is obvious that it concerns showing images in UHD, but not gaming at 4k resolution, Eurogamer reported earlier. According to WSJ, the current PS4 will also remain in production.

A week and a half ago, a first rumor surfaced about the improved version of the PlayStation 4. Sony has not yet responded to those rumors. Earlier this month, Microsoft made a similar announcement, in which Xbox CEO Phil Spencer made room for the possibility of hardware upgrades for upcoming consoles being released to increase compatibility.

Sony recently announced that its PlayStation VR will cost 399 euros and will be released in October. The company also announced that it would only certify games for the VR device if they did not fall below 60fps during gameplay.
