Rumor: Sony is working on a new PlayStation handheld that streams games through PS5
Sony is said to be working on a new handheld console that would fall under the PlayStation line, Insider Gaming says. That device looks like a successor to the PlayStation Portable and Vita, but should be used in conjunction with the PS5.
Insider Gaming states based on sources that the device has the Q Lite as a working title. That should be a PlayStation handheld that only works in combination with the PlayStation 5. That implies that the device becomes an extension of the console. According to Insider Gaming, it is not a cloud gaming device. The Q Lite would operate via Remote Play instead. That is different from the other Sony handhelds, the PlayStation Portable and the PS Vita, for which games had to be developed separately.
The device should therefore always work online. Streaming would be at 1080p resolution at 60fps, the site states. According to Insider Gaming’s sources, the device looks like a DualSense controller, but has an eight-inch LCD screen in the middle. The device also gets the same adaptive triggers that the DualSense also has and also has a volume knob, speakers and an audio port. Sony has not yet officially confirmed the existence of such a handheld console and it is not known if and when it will be released.
