Rumor: Snapdragon 865 is 20 percent faster than Snapdragon 855
The possible specifications of Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 865 soc have appeared on Weibo. It is probably an octacore CPU with, among other things, new Cortex A77 cores. Qualcomm is expected to officially unveil the chip on December 3.
According to the Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station, the Snapdragon 865 will have a single A77 core running at 2.84GHz and three A77 cores running at 2.42GHz. It is striking that these speeds are lower than those of the current Snapdragon 855+. Perhaps this will be compensated with an improved IPC. The Snapdragon 865 may contain four economical Cortex A55 cores with a clock speed of 1.8GHz, which are also already in the 855+ chip. The Snapdragon 865 will also feature an Adreno 650 GPU with a clock speed of 587MHz, according to the leaker. Digital Chat Station posted the details on Chinese social media platform Weibo, GizmoChina writes. He previously leaked the packaging of the newly announced Xiaomi Mi Note 10.
According to the Weibo user, the upcoming soc will outperform the Snapdragon 855 by about 20 percent. The new Adreno 650 GPU, in turn, should be “17 to 20 percent” faster than its predecessor.
The chip is expected to be officially announced at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit on December 3. There are rumors that the upcoming soc will include an integrated Snapdragon X55 modem with support for 5G. It is also possible that Qualcomm will come with two different Snapdragon 865 models, one of which will include a 5g modem. The chip with euv lithography is expected to be produced using the 7nm finfet process.
