Rumor: Samsung will not include a charger with some smartphones next year

Samsung would no longer supply a charger with some smartphones from next year. The manufacturer reportedly wants to do this to save costs and because almost all users already have a charger. It is not yet known which models are involved.

According to the South Korean newspaper Electronic Times, Samsung is in talks with partners about omitting the charger on a number of models that will be released in 2021. One of the reasons would be that smartphones have become more expensive with the advent of 5g. Chargers aren’t expensive components, but by eliminating them, Samsung could also make the packaging of its phones smaller and save on shipping costs.

It is not clear for which models Samsung is considering omitting the charger. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently reported that the iPhone manufacturer is considering shipping the iPhone 12 models without a charger and headset. The company would like to save costs, but also point out benefits for the environment, because most customers already have a charger.
