Rumor: Samsung wants to acquire the company behind speech recognition technology
Samsung is said to be in talks with Nuance, developer of the speech recognition technology that includes Apple’s Siri, about a possible acquisition of that company. That writes The Wall Street Journal Monday evening based on unnamed sources.
The sources did not reveal anything about the current state of affairs to The Wall Street Journal. The first talks between Nuance and Samsung are said to have taken place earlier this year, but it is not clear whether both companies are still working towards an acquisition. In addition, other unknown private companies also reportedly applied to Nuance for an acquisition.
The American Nuance develops speech recognition technology for computers and televisions, among other things. In addition, Nuance supplies the technology to Apple, for its voice assistant Siri, and to Samsung for its S Voice service. Samsung uses the technology in its mobile phones, tablets, televisions and wearables. Samsung may want to exert more influence on the development of speech recognition technology with the acquisition of Nuance.
