Rumor: Samsung to make Snapdragon 820 in 14nm and 10nm versions
Samsung is said to be planning to produce the Qualcomm-designed Snapdragon 820-soc in a process of both 14nm and 10nm. The Korean manufacturer will probably choose to start mass production at 14nm.
The rumors come from a Weibo account that was the first to release rumors about the Snapdragon 820-soc, notes G for Games. There would be plans to produce Qualcomm’s new high-end soc in both 14nm and 10nm, the most likely reason being that manufacturing on a 10nm process has limited production capacity for the time being. Incidentally, no information is known about when mass production will start, but it is likely that this will be before the end of the year.
The Snapdragon 820-soc has already been announced and is based on the Kryo core, the successor to Krait. Incidentally, Qualcomm used ARM Cortex cores for the Snapdragon 810. The new Kryo core should double the performance compared to the Snapdragon 810, according to Qualcomm. Those claims have yet to be independently confirmed.
Qualcomm previously announced that the first smartphones with the Snapdragon 820-soc will be released next year. One of the devices is probably the Samsung Galaxy S7, of which rumors have surfaced several times. This device is probably still in development for some time and it is still unknown which version of the Snapdragon 820 the manufacturer wants to use.
