Rumor: Samsung makes Galaxy S6 more expensive than iPhone 6
Samsung will make its main device for 2015, the Galaxy S6, more expensive than its main competitor iPhone 6 at release, an Android fan site reports. The prices in the rumor are in line with what the South Korean manufacturer usually asks for new devices.
According to the site, the cheapest version of the Galaxy S6 will cost 749 euros. That is 50 euros more expensive than the suggested retail price of the cheapest iPhone 6, its main competitor on the smartphone market. While the iPhone 6 has 16GB of flash storage, the cheapest Galaxy S6 would have 32GB. In the variants where the storage is the same, the S6 would also be 50 euros more expensive.
With this, Samsung would also increase the price of its most important device compared to its predecessors. The Galaxy S5 started at 699 euros, just like the Galaxy S4. The Galaxy S III and S II went on sale for less money at the time.
The prices from the rumor are in line with recent releases from Samsung. The Note 4 also cost 749 euros at release, while Samsung asks for a price of 509 euros for the ‘midrange smartphone’ Galaxy A7 at the release in March.
According to AndroidPit, there will also be an Edge version of the Galaxy S6, just like the one there was with the Note Edge. Samsung would ask a hundred euros more for that. Samsung has meanwhile sent an invitation to the media for an announcement on Sunday evening, March 1, just hours after HTC is likely to announce its One M9.
