Rumor: Samsung is working on Quick Share for sharing between Galaxy smartphones

Samsung seems to be working on Quick Share functionality for its Galaxy smartphones, according to an apk with that name. The feature allows Galaxy users to share images, video and files with others in close proximity.

XDA managed to get the received Quick Share apk running, but not functional. From the screenshots, it can be seen that Galaxy users can choose whether they want to share files with a Samsung device only with contacts or with everyone nearby.

The feature also appears to allow files to be sent to a supported SmartThings device. The transmission then takes place via the Samsung Cloud servers and there is a maximum of 1GB per time and 2GB per day. SmartThings is Samsung’s platform for smarthomes and it seems likely that Quick Share should enable sharing with televisions in particular.

The feature could appear simultaneously with the arrival of the Galaxy S20 series, XDA speculates. Samsung is not the first party to have such a sharing feature. Apple already has it in the form of Airdrop, while Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi are working on a file transfer technique for Android under the name Peer-to-Peer Transmission Alliance. Google itself is also said to be working on something similar, called Nearby Sharing.
