Samsung is said to be working on a second version of its Z1 phone with Tizen, SamMobile reports. The new version will reportedly get an OLED screen, instead of an LCD as with the current Z1. It would be the third phone with Samsung’s own operating system.

No further details are known about the device, whose type number would be Z150, reports SamMobile. The fact that Samsung is working on a successor to the Z1, indicates that it wants to continue the development of Tizen for phones. The South Korean manufacturer currently mainly uses Android on its phones. Samsung does use Tizen on other devices, such as TVs and until recently cameras.

Tizen is Samsung’s own operating system and originates from Bada, among others, the system that Samsung developed for its Wave phones from six years ago. In addition to Bada, Tizen also emerged from the efforts of Intel, which first developed Moblin and together with Nokia MeeGo, both Linux kernel-based operating systems.

When Nokia stopped developing MeeGo, Samsung took over. The Z1 was the first Tizen device to be released last year, but Samsung limited the release and did not market the device in the Benelux. The more expensive Z3 did not come out here either.

The South Korean manufacturer released three new products on Friday: the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge and the 3G version of its smartwatch Gear S2. This is the first consumer product with a built-in SIM, a possible future replacement for the SIM card.
