Rumor: Samsung is working on its own 20MP camera module for Galaxy S6
Samsung is reportedly working on its own 20-megapixel camera module for its upcoming Galaxy S6 smartphone. The release of the smartphone itself is said to have been brought forward by two or three weeks. The announcement is likely to come during Mobile World Congress.
This is reported by the Korean Electronic Times in a report about Samsung Electro-Mechanics, a subsidiary of Samsung. SEM would make camera modules of 20 megapixels that are used for the Galaxy S6. The camera module used is rumored to have optical image stabilization. Samsung previously showed camera modules of 13 megapixels and 16 megapixels with optical image stabilization. Electronic Times also states, based on its sources, that the Galaxy S6 will be released two to three weeks earlier than initially planned.
The Galaxy S6 has been rumored for some time now, which is expected to be announced at Mobile World Congress in March. Last year, Samsung did the same for the announcement of the Galaxy S5, which was then released in April. If the rumors are correct, the successor could already be released in March.
According to rumors, the Galaxy S6 will receive a chip that should reduce the power consumption for WiFi and GPS by 80 percent. In addition, it would no longer be necessary to swipe the home button for fingerprint recognition: touch is enough. Samsung is said to be planning to release two versions of its upcoming top model, one of which has a curved screen. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 soc would be built into the housing and the screen resolution would be 2560×1440 pixels.
