Rumor: Samsung is working on a folding phone with a folding screen
Samsung is working on two more foldable smartphones, including one that folds out vertically, according to a new rumor. The other phone being developed by the company is a variant of the Galaxy Fold with the screen on the outside.
Samsung plans to unveil the folding phone with a folding screen at the end of this year or early next year, Bloomberg writes, citing sources familiar with the plans. Samsung would test various prototypes and, among other things, consider whether the device should have a screen on the outside, as would now be the case with the test models. More is not yet known about the clamshell smartphone.
The other smartphone with a folding screen that Samsung is working on is similar to the Galaxy Fold announced last month, but with a screen that is folded on the outside of the device. The company is said to have had this prototype for some time and would have considered releasing it as the company’s first foldable smartphone. In the end, Samsung opted for the design of the Galaxy Fold, with the screen folded inwards. Competitor Huawei did unveil a smartphone where the screen bends outwards.
