Rumor: Samsung is putting optical fingerprint scanner in Galaxy S8 series
According to a new rumor, Samsung wants to equip the Galaxy S8 series with an optical fingerprint scanner. In addition, the S8 edge would have a 5.5 “screen with 4k resolution that is curved on all sides.
An optical fingerprint scanner works by taking a ‘picture’ of the fingerprint, after which the scanner emits visible light for recognition and tries to identify the finger. The information comes from a phone blogger on the Chinese social network Weibo. The advantage of such a scanner is that it does not have to be in a home button, notes SamMobile. It can also be incorporated into a screen.
This is necessary, because Samsung wants to equip the S8 edge with a screen that is curved on four sides. Where the S7 edge and Note 7 are only curved on the sides, the S8, or an edge version thereof, should also be curved at the top and bottom.
Another blogger has posted possible specs of the S8 edge on Weibo. The phone would have a 5.5″ OLED screen with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. Such a screen would lend itself better to virtual reality, among other things, than the screens that Samsung uses this year, because the pixel density would be higher. be an Exynos 8895, with processor cores produced at 10nm.It is difficult at this stage to estimate which rumors are true and which are not.Experience shows that many of the rumors are true, but some later turn out not to be true.
Until now, Samsung has invariably released its Galaxy S phones in the spring and if that pattern continues, the device will be on the market in the spring of 2017. In recent years, the manufacturer used the Sunday before the telecom fair Mobile World Congress to present the device. If that happens again, Samsung would show the S8 series to the world on February 26, 2017.
